Dali & Beyond Film Series- Spike Jonze's: Being John Malkovich
Thursday, Jul 19, 6:00 pm

“The best film of 1999.” – Roger Ebert.  This is the remarkable directorial debut from the acclaimed music video director (Beastie Boys, Fat Boy Slim’s “Praise You,” REM) and Three Kings photographer/co-star.  Jonze’s feature debut is an audaciously original black comedy/fantasy starring John Cusack and Cameron Diaz.  The story concerns an iconoclastic street puppeteer (Cusack) who discovers a “portal” into the mind of actor John Malkovich (!), and decides to exploit its possibilities for a little cash.  This far-out head trip by writer Charlie Kaufman is ingeniously developed into a full-blown story and acted with pizzazz.  Malkovich is outstanding in a sly, nuanced performance. (USA, 1999, 113 min., DVD; rated R)
